"I thought I could be happy. I mean, the restraunt is starting to make money, I just bought a new jet ski. My cholestrol is down but none of it is any fun...without her!"
Although Sophie told Susan that Morty assulted her, this restraunt owner couldn't hurt a fly. Hapless, dogged, and over the moon about Sophie-regardless of her wacky ways-he finally proposes to her, with his dead wifes engagement ring. He has found his one true love, even if it took him more than half his life to do it!
Marc Cherry: Bob was on our wish list for Morty, and when we found out he might be available, my entire writing staff was over the moon. Morty had to be played by someone who you couldn't believe would actually hit a woman-an actor where, once you saw Morty, you just laughed, and that's why he was perfecdt. You're always scared to work with your comedic icons because you don't know what they're going to be like in real life and he turned out to be just as nice as you'd imagine Bob Newhart to be.
