Tom's father, Rodney, comes for a visit to see the family and Lynette winds up walking in on him with a woman who is not his wife. Rodney's visit spurs a frank conversation between the Scavo's ab out commitment and fidelity. Unknown to Lynette, Tom confesses a secret of his own past, revealing that he may not be the perfect husband.
Marc Cherry: For the role of Tom's father, we orginally thought, Let's go with a big star, Ryan O'Neal was top of our list, but we were concerned that we weren't going to be able to get him due to money and time issues. At the last second, it worked out. I was so glad. One of my little jokes with that part is that I named him Rodney and Tom's mother Allison, and of course Rodney and Allison were the lead characters in Peyton Palace played by Ryan O'Neal and Mia Farrow. One of my daydreams is to get Mia Farrow to polay Tom's mother for a future storyline.
