Sophie is Susan's mother. A knockout brunette who is obsessed with lokking young, she is also a drama queen who tends to exaggerate the truth. Troubled in her relationship with her long-time boyfriend Morty, she asks Susan if she can move in. She tries to arrange double dates, she slows down the ice-cream truck to flirt-generally doing everything she can to disrupt her daughter's life. When Morty finally comes back and proposes, Sophie leaves, and Susan just might be a little sad to see her go.

Marc Cherry: We cast Lesley-Ann because she seemed like the Teri Hatcher of the 70's. I've been a fan of her for years, going back to Victor/Victoria and Cinderella. Getting to work with her was a huge honor.
