Carlos and Gabrielle's maid Yao Lin is the employee from hell.m Though she does a good job on the house, she bickers with Gabrielle, is resistant to her demand that she clean with John's striped gym sock, and makes Gabrielle's life miserable. After the Solises finally fire her because of their money problems, Yao Lin runs into Gabrielle at a cosmetic counter where she's working and demands a make-over, the ultimate humiliation.
Marc Cherry: I had seen Lucille Soong in Freaky Friday and i thought she would be an interesting addition to our world. I was also trying to bring in as many ethnic faces as possible. At first i wanted a white maid so that the Hispanic couple had a white maid. But we were going over budget in those first few episodes, and if you cast a person of color, the diversity fund pays for it. So it was also a budgetary decision.
